Matthew Wilson, MD
Don’t be surprised if Dr. Matthew Wilson wishes you ‘bonum salutem’ at the conclusion of your visit to Western Neurosurgery. The phrase means, ‘good health’ in Latin and Dr. Wilson knows it well since his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan is in Latin Language and Literature. He is one of a very small number of people in the country to study the ancient language.
Dr. Wilson did not immediately pursue a career in medicine after college. He first became a soccer coach and physics teacher in a Chicago area high school. He had grown up in the suburbs of the city and was a star basketball and soccer player at New Trier High School.
He earned his medical degree at Tulane University College of Medicine and did his internship and residency at the University of Tennessee and the Semmes-Murphey Clinic, in Memphis, Tennessee.
Since joining Western Neurosurgery in 2005, Dr. Wilson has focused on back pain, neck pain, degenerative spine disorders, spine fractures, minimally invasive spine surgery, peripheral nerve surgery and brain tumors.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Wilson loves to watch professional and college sports and rarely misses a chance to cheer on his Chicago Cubs and Michigan Wolverines.
