Leadership

Patient Safety & Quality

Under Dr. Sipos’ leadership, the administrative medical staff structure of the neurosciences at the Carondelet Neurological Institute and St. Joseph’s Hospital have been reinvented with a focus on clinical safety and quality.  Among his many administrative roles, Dr. Sipos serves on the Medical Executive Committee of the hospital and is the Medical Director of the Neurological Institute.  He has been a lecturer for Ascension Health Network (the largest non-profit health network in the United States) on the subject of patient safety and quality, and is a former Chairman of the Ascension Spine Affinity Group, which provided guidance nationally for improving spine surgery patient outcomes and safety in a sustainable, cost-effective manner.  His passion for patient safety is both professional and personal.

Medical Architecture & Technology

Dr. Sipos has served as Medical Director of the Carondelet Neurological Institute since its inception.  He provided medical leadership for the superb team of clinicians, administrators, architects, and contractors involved in the vision, design, construction, and development of the Institute.  This included key design elements for a state-of–the-art critical care unit, surgical suites, and radiosurgical facility.  His design concepts for the neurocritical care unit allow for circumferential access to critically ill patients for clinical assessments, therapeutic interventions, and neurosurgical procedures in the intensive care setting.  His role on the design team for the CNI neurosurgical operative suites led to a number of technological and design innovations that have resulted in a first-of-its-kind surgical facility, attracting attention around the world.  This facility has been a show site for operating rooms of the future as medical leaders from as far away as Brazil and Australia have come to Tucson to tour the surgical suites.  Leading medical institutions, including The Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, have built similar surgical suites based on the CNI design.  Dr. Sipos has served as an invited lecturer on topics as diverse as medical architecture, operating room design, intraoperative imaging, and stereotactic navigation in cranial and spinal neurosurgery.

My visit with Dr. Sipos was a very positive experience. I found him to be very kind, compassionate, extremely informative, and genuinely interested in helping me to find answers to my problem. I also very much appreciated that he did not seem to be hurried and discussed things with a great deal of patience. I would highly recommend him to others (and already have).

This was my first time seeing Dr. Sipos. He made me feel at ease and that he cared about my health issues. My primary doctor had me see Dr. Sipos instead of another one at your practice. Very happy that Dr. Perrian requested me to see Dr. Sipos!
